Dal Khalsa calls Amritsar Bandh on June 6th
Chandigarh: The Dal Khalsa has called for an Amritsar bandh on June 6 on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the military attack on Darbar Sahib and other Sikh shrines in June 1984.
Activists of the organization have put up boards and posters across the city to mark the anniversary of the massacre that took place in the first week of June 1984. Party workers distributed pamphlets to passers-by seeking their cooperation to make the bandh a success.
Bhai Kanwarpal Singh, the senior leader of the party, said that the Dal Khalsa will take out the Ghallughara memorial march on June 5 at 5 pm. The march will start from Burj Akali Phula Singh, pass through Sultanwind Road, pass through Gurdwara Shaheed, Hal Bazar, and reach Darbar Sahib.
He said that the Indian state had tried to find a solution to the political problem of Punjab with military force and till today India's approach is anti-Sikh. He demanded that government files related to the military offensive be made public. He held the Congress as well as the BJP and the Communist parties responsible for the attack, who encouraged the then-Indian government to launch a military attack. He said that the pain of this military attack on the religious places, national pride, and honor of the Sikh community is painful and the community has not forgiven the attacking party. He said that he will fulfill the duty of continuing the thought and struggle of the martyrs of Ghallughara until victory.
Addressing the press conference, spokesperson Paramjit Singh Mand said that the purpose of the bandh call was to express protest against the killing of hundreds of innocent pilgrims, and the looting of precious scriptures, manuscripts, and artifacts from the Sikh Reference Library. The Darbar Sahib group is to pay tribute to all those killed by the Indian security forces as well as to realize the pain and suffering of this heinous attack. He clarified that this invitation is only to close all kinds of commercial and educational institutions and there will be no disruption in traffic. He assured that medical services and transport will remain open during the bandh. He appealed to the people of Amritsar to keep their business establishments closed and participate in the suffering of the Sikh community.
He appealed to the non-Sikh population of Amritsar to share the pain of the Sikh community and express solidarity by closing their business establishments.
