The Supreme Court dismissed NIA's appeal against Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal's bail
New Delhi:- The Supreme Court today rejected the appeal of the National Investigation Agency of India against the bail of Jagtar Singh alias Jaggi Johal, a citizen of Scotland.
Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, Jaggi Johal's defense counsel and chair of Punjab Lawyers, said that the NIA had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court to cancel Jaggi Johal's bail in case number RC/24/2017/NIA.
Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that this case was debated by the retired Justice of Kerala High Court R. Was done by Basant in the Supreme Court on behalf of Jagtar Singh Jaggi.
An NIA special court in Mohali had on June 24, 2020 rejected the bail application filed by Jagtar Singh Johal alias Jaggi in case number 24/2017/NIA.
A bench of Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa and Justice Lalit Batra of the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Jagtar Singh Johal on 15 March 2022 in this case.
Later, the NIA appealed to the Supreme Court to cancel the bail granted to Jagtar Singh Johal by the High Court. The Supreme Court has stayed the bail orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Today, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by the NIA while upholding the judgment of the Punjab and Haryana High Court granting bail to Jagtar Singh Jaggi in Case No. 24/2017/NIA.Today's verdict makes Jagtar Singh Jaggi eligible for bail in the case. But as he is facing other cases, his release is not possible for now. According to advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, Jagtar Singh Jaggi's defense team is pursuing his bail application in other cases. Advocate Manjhpur said today's decision strengthens his chances of bail in other cases.
