No one can ever have the intellectual right over divine Gurbani, admits PTC network

The issue of claiming exclusive rights over broadcasting of Hukamnama from Sri Darbar Sahib by a TV channel PTC is in light these days. The TV channel PTC, which claimed to have its exclusive rights, had sent notices to the web channels including Sikh Siyasat and reportedly got the content blocked through Facebook.

Interacting with media, Sikh Siyasat’s editor Parmjeet Singh Gazi informed that they used to pick the audio of Hukumnama from the SGPC website on different portals which are already put in the public domain. “Our designers used to add visual of Sri Darbar Sahib to it and broadcast it further. Now, it has been blocked after complaint by PTC to Facebook authorities that the telecasting of Gurbani and Hukamnama is its intellectual property,” he added.

He further informed that he approached Facebook seeking unblocking of this content and the Facebook has it would reply by January 16. “We have also approached the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee against the discrimination over telecast rights,” he informed.

The Akal Takht secretariat also asked the SGPC and PTC channel to clarify their stance about the exclusive rights over the telecast of Gurbani and Hukumnama pronounced daily from Sri Darbar Sahib. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the PTC has finally admitted that no one can ever have the intellectual right over divine Gurbani.
