US terms Pakistan, India Kartarpur Corridor talks as ‘good news’

Terming the Kartarpur Corridor talks between Pakistan and India as ‘good news’, the US Department of State said it was incredibly supportive of anything that increases people-to-people ties between the two neighbours.

Addressing a press briefing, US State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said that the US encouraged the talks between Pakistan and India on building the Kartarpur Corridor for Sikh pilgrims.

“We encourage it. Anything that increases people-to-people ties between India and Pakistan is something that we’re incredibly supportive of,” the spokesperson added. The recent talks between the two nuclear countries took place on July 14 at Wagah border. Foreign Office Spokesman Mohammad Faisal said there was a positive development in talks regarding the corridor.

The corridor is being constructed to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The corridor will give Indian Sikhs visa-free access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Pakistan.
