SGPC fails in clarifying possession of missing Sikh scriptures of Sikh Reference Library

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Amid serious allegations of selling the historic saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the SGPC’s chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh today underwent meeting with about 21 serving and former SGPC officials (mostly related to Sikh Reference Library) at SGPC’s headquarter Teja Singh Samundari Hall.

A thorough discussion was held on the serious allegations being raised by a section of media about receiving the treasure of Sikh Reference Library from the Indian army and then selling the historic saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at a very high cost. Briefing the media after meeting, Dr. Roop Singh stated that the SGPC never received the whole treasure of Sikh Reference Library from the Indian army which was looted during the June-1984’s holocaust.

“According to the accession register of before June-1984 era, there were 12613 rare books and 512 hand-written saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and even if we accept the claims of a media section leveling allegations on us then still the SGPC didn’t receive 11107 books and 307 hand-written saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji,” he added However, Dr. Roop Singh couldn’t clarify whether the SGPC possesses the 205 hand-written saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 807 books, 1 Hukamnama and newspapers received from the Indian army which is being claimed by a media section.

On being questioned about the allegations of selling rare saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Dr. Roop Singh said that a “high power committee” will be constituted to probe the matter in which the trustee members of SGPC, experts of handwriting, legal experts and SGPC officials will be taken. “If the charges proved, anyone found guilty in this issue won’t be spared at any cost, but if the charges aren’t proved then the allegation levelers will be sued in Court,” he added.
